Shropshire sheep
The Roogulli Shropshire flock was established in 2022 using genetics from the Clarendon, Holbeck Park, Best of British and Colfarm flocks. We are aiming to breed a traditional style of Shropshire that offers another option to our customers for a compact, easy to handle sheep that produces meat and fibre and is fun to have around.
We notice that our Shropshires have a longer, softer fleece that our Babydolls, which is suited to craft uses such as spinning and felting.
Shropshires are a rare breed in Australia. They have dark faces and legs and a white springy Downs-style fleece. Even though relatively small in the modern sheep world, they have a well muscled body and plenty of meat. They are a remarkably efficient breed, able to hold their condition well in dry conditions.
We also have some purebred coloured Shropshires in our flock which are typically born all black and fade to silver grey with dark face and legs over a few years. These carry rare, recessive colour genetics.
